Are you thinking about having a neon sign at your wedding? This is such a cute decor idea for wedding receptions. I think it really adds a nice “glow” to your big day!
But before you spend a bunch of money on wedding neon sign, what exactly should you consider? For example, what wedding neon sign size should you use?
In this wedding neon sign guide, I cover all the basics for this must have wedding decoration. Start by browsing through some of my most popular articles on wedding neon signs:
Wedding Neon Sign Size
How big of a neon sign should you get for a wedding? This can be a tricky to figure out! After all, the bigger the size of the neon sign, the more you will pay for it.
You don’t want a wedding neon sign that looks too small for the decor. On the other hand, a neon sign that is too big will look awkward too.
Here’s what to consider when choosing a wedding neon sign size.
Small Wedding Neon Signs
- Measuring 2ft wide or smaller (24in/60cm).
- Perfect for neon signs that will sit on top of tables or in photo booth backgrounds.
- These signs don’t need to be too big, as they will be viewed up close.
Medium Wedding Neon Signs
- Measuring 2ft – 4ft wide (24in/60cm -48in/122cm)
- Perfect for neon signs that will be used behind a sweetheart table, head table, in an arch, against a greenery or floral wall.
- These signs often are displayed behind the couple in as part of a photo backdrop.
- Consider the size of your greenery wall, arch, sweetheart table, etc. Your sign should fit within these dimensions while leaving some space on both sides.
Large Wedding Neon Signs
- Measuring 4ft wide or larger (48in/122cm)
- Perfect for neon signs that will be displayed against a wall, large doorway or very large backdrop.
- These wedding neon signs really make a statement, but will also cost more than smaller neon signs.
Whatever size neon sign you decide on, make sure to double check the measurements before you order. Many companies do not offer refunds on custom wedding neon signs.
How to Hang Wedding Neon Signs
How do you hang a neon sign for a wedding? There are a couple ways to go about hanging neon signs for your ceremony or reception.
Hanging Cables
Hanging cables can be used to hang a neon sign from an arch or backdrop stand.
Many neon sign vendors offer metal or wire hanging cables to use with your sign. You can also use clear fishing line wire to hang your wedding neon sign.
Look for sign backing or backboards with pre-drilled holes to use for the cables.
Don’t worry too much about the hanging cables showing. Most guests will not notice this unless they are really close to the neon sign. Cables & wires can be edited out of your photos.
Wall Mounting
If your wedding neon sign will sit against a wood backdrop or something similar, it can be mounted directly to the wood.
Many neon sign vendors offer wall mounting kits. These kits usually include screws and mounting pins to use with your neon sign.
This is a good option if your worried about your neon sign moving around to much or getting bumped by guests.
Zip Ties, Command Strips
How do you hang a neon sign from an arch? Another way to hang your wedding neon sign is to use zip ties. If your sign is going to be attached to an arch, consider using zip ties to secure it.
Can you hang a neon sign with command strips? LED neon signs generally aren’t too heavy. Because of this, Command Strips can also be used to hang your wedding neon sign.
You can place the Command Strip on the wall or backdrop. Use fishing wire to hang the neon sign from the Command Strip.
Free Standing Neon Signs
Finally, if your wedding neon sign is going to be sitting on a table or flat surface, you might not need any hanging or wall mounting hardware.
Instead, you can get a free standing neon sign. These signs have a flat bottom piece that allows the sign to stand upright on a table, bar, etc.
Custom Wedding Neon Sign Costs
How much should you pay for a neon sign for your wedding? The custom wedding neon sign cost will mostly depend on the size of your sign.
Here’s what to expect on average for wedding neon sign prices:
- Small Signs (under 2ft wide) – $100 to $250
- Medium Signs (2ft to 4ft wide) – $200 to $450
- Large Signs (over 4ft wide) – $450+
Now, these prices are just a guideline. You can certainly find good deals out there. Don’t forget to look for coupons and discounts to use with your neon sign vendor.
Some of my favorite vendors for custom wedding neon signs include:
Also, a lot of the custom wedding neon sign cost will depend on if your sign is one line or more than one line. More lines, generally means the neon sign is more expensive.
Another thing that can bump of the cost of your neon sign is any extras or add ons. Many vendors offer the following items with your neon sign:
- Power supply
- Mounting hardware
- Hanging hardware
- Dimming remote
- Special backing/backboards
- Waterproofing
- Rush production & delivery
Some of these might be included in the price, while others might cost you extra. Be sure to double check before you buy your wedding neon sign.
Wedding Neon Signs After The Wedding
What do you do with your neon sign after the wedding? There are a few different options to choose from.
Resell or Donate Your Wedding Neon Sign
Wedding neon signs can be expensive. If you’re looking to regain some of that cost, consider reselling your wedding neon sign on sites like eBay, Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace or Wedding Recycle.
You might think that a custom wedding neon sign can’t be resold, but you never know! If you have a common last name or used initials in your sign, there might be someone out there with the same name.
Wedding neon signs with popular phrases such as “Better Together” should be pretty easy to resell.
Can’t find anyone to buy your wedding neon sign? Consider donating it to another couple or offering it to a charity for their use.
Wedding Neon Sign As Home Decor
At lot of couples like the idea of using their custom wedding neon sign as a home decoration.
Your wedding neon sign might work great in these areas of your home:
- Basement or game room
- Family room
- Dining room
- Kitchen
- Bedroom
- Covered porch or patio
- In a gallery wall
Regardless of what you do with your neon sign after the wedding, I recommend keeping the box that it came in. This way, you have a box that fits your sign to use for shipping or storage.
