A lot of people these days are wanting to do some sort of photo backdrop or picture area where the bride, groom and guests can take photos against a nice background. This makes for the perfect place to put a neon sign.
Wedding neon signs look great in these areas too:
- Dance floor
- Bar area
- Food area
- Dessert table
- Guest book/gift area
- Seating chart area
- Behind/in front of the head table
- Behind/in front of a sweetheart table
- At the ceremony
To decorate your wedding with a neon sign, do these three steps:
- Decide where to put your neon sign.
- Decide what your neon sign should say – use these wedding neon sign saying ideas!
- Decide how to decorate your sign.
Here’s a few different wedding neon sign backdrop & decoration ideas you can use.
Greenery Wall Wedding Neon Sign Backdrop
Greenery walls make for the perfect backdrop for a wedding neon sign. The dark green shades help provide contrast to the bright lettering of the neon lights. So your neon sign will be easy to read.
I like how the different types of plants used in a greenery wall offers some variety and makes it visually appealing. You can use clippings from live plants of course.
Or use faux, done for you greenery walls. Many faux plants look surprisingly realistic and are ok to use outdoors.
Wedding Greenery Backdrops
How do you hang a neon sign against a green wall backdrop? One way to do it is to have the sign hung from an arch or circle that is placed in front of the greenery.
Or you can mount it directly to the backdrop, set against the leaves.
Consider where your greenery wall will be placed at your reception. If it is in a dark area, you might want to add a few soft up lights to help show off the greens.
Pampas Grass For A Boho Wedding Neon Sign Backdrop
Similar to greenery walls is a backdrop using pampas grass. Boho themed weddings are popular these days and nothing says boho more than pampas grass and dried palm leaves.
The soft colors of these grasses make for the perfect backdrop for a neon sign. You can create an entire wall from pampas grass. Or just display some of the stems around your neon sign for a beautiful touch.

Flower Wall Wedding Neon Sign Backdrop
If you like the look of a greenery wall for your neon sign but want it to be something other than the color green, consider using a floral wall instead.
Flower walls come in just about any color making them easy to coordinate with your wedding reception color scheme. Your neon sign is going to look amazing set against a wall of beautiful flowers 🙂

Shimmer Panel for Wedding Neon Signs
You might have seen shimmer panels or shimmer curtains being used for parties and events. But have you considered using them for a wedding neon sign backdrop?
These fun panels are made of lots of reflective squares that sparkle in the light, similar to a disco ball. Add balloons, flowers and your neon sign and you’ve got a great backdrop for wedding photos.

Curtains for Wedding Neon Signs
Regular cloth curtains make for a great backdrop for your wedding neon sign. They are an affordable option and come in lots of different colors and sizes.
You can hang them easily using backdrop stands or wedding arches. Add flowers, greenery, balloons, lights, your neon sign and other elements for the perfect wedding photo background.
You can also get creative in how you hang your curtains for a more layered look.
Wood Panels for Wedding Photo Backdrops
Have you seen these beautiful wood panels for wedding decor? They make for a stylish backdrop and are the perfect project for those who like woodworking.
You can use several wood panels together with some seating and candles to create a lovely wedding neon sign backdrop DIY project.
I love how the flower garland on top of this wood panel frames the neon sign. This would look amazing behind a sweetheart table.
If you like the look of the wood panels, but don’t want to use bulky wood, consider using fabric panels instead. The fabric slips over a metal frame and gives a smooth, clean finish similar to wood.

Pallets for Wedding Photo Backdrops
If you’re doing a rustic themed wedding, then you’ve probably thought about using pallets or pallet wood for some sort of wedding reception decorations.
But have you considered using this as a backdrop for a wedding neon sign?
Pallet wood is so versatile – there are so many ways you can turn it into something gorgeous! Pair it with seating, florals and your wedding neon sign for a nice photo area inside or outdoors.
Or use it along with a neon sign in your bar area as a fun touch at your wedding.
Arch & Circle Wedding Photo Backdrops
It’s really popular these days to use various kinds of arches and circles as a wedding decoration. You’ll see these covered with flowers, greenery and lights.
But why not also add a neon sign to the mix? This gives you a way to hang your neon sign if you’re unsure of a place to mount it at your reception.
Wedding Arch Stands
Many wedding arches and circle decorations come in gold metal or wood finishes. You can use them both indoors at your reception or outdoors for your photos or ceremony.
If you don’t want to buy one of these props, consider renting one from a wedding rental company. Then you don’t have to worry about what to do with it after the wedding.
Light Curtains & Candles Behind a Wedding Neon Sign
Lots of candles make for a great way to show off your neon sign. You can have the candles on the floor near the sign or sitting on shelving, crates, etc. This provides a nice glow for receptions or ceremonies that have a bit of a “mood” to them.
If you can’t have real candles at your wedding, no worries. Check out my articles on flameless candles for weddings here: Wedding Flameless Candle Ideas
Another way to do a backdrop for your wedding neon sign is to use string lights. You can get light curtains which are basically just a bunch of string lights hung vertically from a central wire.
A light curtain will look amazing as a backdrop with a neon sign. Pair it with some greenery, florals and furniture for a cute way to style your sweetheart table.
Reception Venue Scenery For A Wedding Neon Sign
Finally, consider using some of the decor already available at your reception venue as a place to display your wedding neon sign.
The photo above shows a neon sign being displayed on the walls of beautiful abbey ruins which is where the reception took place.
A fireplace at this gorgeous wedding venue is used as the backdrop for a “Happily Ever After” wedding neon sign. Does your venue have a place like this to use? Don’t be afraid to ask the venue’s event coordinator for help with this.
