Patriotic Table Decor & Table Setting Ideas
I know for me, Memorial Day and 4th of July always seem to sneak up quickly. Before you know it, it’s time to host family and friends for a cookout celebration of the red, white and blue!
Sometimes I’m tempted to just not bother with any decorations and just focus on planning out the menu.
But I think the day is more special with some patriotic decorations here and there, especially on the dining table and food serving areas.
If you’re looking to make your summer holiday celebrations a bit more festive, start with your table decorations. Use these easy patriotic table decor & table setting ideas for inspiration!
Fresh Flower Patriotic Table Centerpieces
A lot of people like to keep it causal at summer holiday get togethers and don’t really do a sit down meal. But if you like to set a full table, then you’ll want to create a beautiful patriotic tablescape or centerpiece to celebrate.
One easy way to do this is to use fresh flowers in red, white a blue shades. You can get cut flowers at a local grocery store or consider taking a few clippings from your own garden. Potted plants in small containers can also work.
Pair the flowers with red, white and blue table linens, flag decorations and candles for a simple but gorgeous dining area for your backyard gathering.
Patriotic Table Decor With Chalkboard Details
Chalkboards add a fun touch to your patriotic table decorations as you can get creative and decorate them as you please. In the photo above, chalkboard paint covers the surface of a wooden table. Patriotic designs are used to decorate around the food items. Lanterns and flowers finish the look.
If you like this idea, but don’t want to cover a table in chalkboard paint, consider using a chalkboard table runner instead. These paper table runners have a similar feel to a chalkboard and can be drawn on with chalk or markers. You can dispose of them after the party.
Chalkboard signs are also great for directing folks towards certain food & beverage items such as “drinks in the cooler”.
Folded Flags For Patriotic Table Settings
A lot of people think of using flag decorations around the house or yard during 4th of July and Memorial Day. But have you considered using them for your table decorations?
In the photo above, a small flag is nicely folded and set against a red plate. Colorful silverware tied with red and white striped ribbon are place on top to create an easy & festive patriotic place setting.
You could also get a similar look using red napkins and small cloth flags place on top of a plate with silverware.
Tiered Trays In Patriotic Table Decor
Tiered trays are great to use for displaying decorative items on a kitchen counter or dining room table. But don’t forget that you can use tiered trays for serving food as well.
Small dishes and bowls can be used on a tiered tray to hold food items such as nuts, berries and candy. Fill the rest of the tiered tray with other appetizer board options such as cheese, crackers, fruit, chips & veggies.
I love how tiered trays add height and dimension to a patriotic table decor. Don’t forget to add in festive touches such as flag toothpicks and red, white & blue ribbons.
Ribbon Accents For Patriotic Table Decorations
Another one of my favorite patriotic table ideas is to add red, white and blue ribbons to your dining table and food serving areas. In the photo above, patriotic ribbons are tied around the drinking glasses and water dispenser for a festive touch.
Ribbon is fairly cheap to buy at craft stores or online. If you’re short on time, adding a touch of ribbon here and there is an easy enough task to have older kids or other adults help with as you prep for guests.
Garland Accents for Patriotic Tables
Similar to ribbon, you can also add garland and bunting to a table for quick and easy patriotic table decorations. You can find garland similar to what is shown in the photo above in craft stores or online.
For those that are crafty, creating Memorial Day garland or bunting could be a fun project to work on. I’ve seen a lot of unique designs for patriotic garland on Pinterest using ribbon, tassels, felt and fabric.
Wooden Block Signs On Patriotic Tables
Another way to add a festive touch to your patriotic table decor is by using festive wood block signs or letters. These signs are easy to find at craft stores, home decor stores or online.
For those that are crafty, consider making your own patriotic sign to use on your table. In the photo above, wood letters are painted to make a cute “USA” sign on this food serving table.
Festive Red, White & Blue Table Linens
If you host family and friends year after year for the summer holidays, it can be worth it to invest in some patriotic table linens.
Plastic table clothes are ok for a one time use. But I like the idea of having a small collection of festive table linens that I can wash and reuse year after year.
You can find patriotic table linens with stars, stripes and other Americana accents. Another idea is to look for red & white buffalo check prints along with navy or denim blue fabrics. Be sure to stock up on table clothes, table runners, placemats and napkins
Nautical Red, White & Blue Table Accents
Everyone knows to decorate in red, white and blue for the US summer holidays. But you don’t have to stick with a “stars and stripes” kind of theme. It can be fun to explore other decor styles that use the same colors.
In the photo above, red, white and blue colors are used on nautical themed paper plates, cups and napkins. This would make for a fun twist on standard 4th of July table decorations.
Patriotic Country Western Table Settings
Another take on using different patterns and themes for your patriotic table settings is to go for a country western vibe. Paisley bandanas, denim placemats and a buffalo checked table cloth contribute to the festive 4th of July table decorations shown in the photo above.
American flag and star accents complete the look. If you’re going for a vintage “Americana” kind of theme for your table, then these prints and fabrics work perfectly.
Rustic Farmhouse Patriotic Place Settings
Another way to incorporate a more vintage look into your patriotic table settings is to pair rustic burlap and linen napkins with red, white and blue touches.
This is a fun idea for those that like farmhouse style decor and want to create a more “weathered” feel to your patriotic table decor. I love the idea of pairing rustic table linens with vintage china, silverware and weathered looking American flags for chic patriotic table decor.
