Even if you’re a traditionalist when it comes to Halloween decorations, it’s still fun to look at the newest Halloween decorating trends and themes.

You never know when something might catch your eye. Or you can use the latest 2024 Halloween home decor trends as inspiration for your own creative take on Halloween decor.

Here’s what I’ve been noticing this year around the web and in stores for Halloween decor trends for 2024.

Note: most of the pictures I took at my local Michaels store around 4th of July, 2024.

Bright Pink, Purple & Orange Halloween Decor

We saw pink seasonal decor become more popular in 2023 after the success of the Barbie movie. It looks like the trend is going to continue this year into Halloween decorations.

Michaels is releasing their “Hippie Halloween” collection which features lots of bright pink Halloween decor items along with gold, purple and bright orange colors.

Personally, I think pink makes for a great “alternative” Halloween decor color as it pairs well with orange, black and purple.

So it’s easy to add a few pink items into your regular Halloween decor for a whole new look.

Magic & Ouija Board Themed Halloween Decor

Witchy and magic inspired items are usually available for Halloween decor, but this year I’ve noticed that there’s an emphasis on Ouija boards. I remember playing with an Ouija board on a girl scout camping trip back in the day, but I haven’t really seen them being used for seasonal decor items.

If you’re into “spooky chic” or classy Halloween decor, consider adding a few Ouija board inspired items to your collection. Joann has their “Eclipse Halloween Witch Decor” collection which had some nice items for Halloween trends 2024.

Along these lines, I’ve noticed lots of iridescence colors paired with light purples for Halloween decor. Definitely something different than your traditional orange and black.

Romantic Gothic Halloween Decorations

Gothic style Halloween decor has been around for a while now, but this year Michaels is featuring a softer side to Halloween with their “Midnight Moon” collection. These gothic style Halloween decor items feature a lot of loved up skeletons and clever sayings like “will you rot with me”.

I think a lot of people are looking for non scary ways to decorate for Halloween and retailers are responding. If you have a lot of gothic or Victorian style Halloween decor in your collection, these items will fit right in.

Haunted Forest & Garden Halloween Decor

Grandin Road introduced a collection of haunted forest Halloween decor a few years back with their “Mystical” collection and it has remained popular ever since. Michaels has a similar “Haunted Forest” collection this year with lots of creepy chic decor in soft white shades – really pretty.

We saw a lot of mushroom decorations for Christmas of 2023 and it looks like retailers are wanting to carry this trend forward for Halloween decor 2024.

If you bought any mushroom decorations last Christmas, consider using them for Halloween this year.

Personally, I think this makes for something really unique and different for Halloween decor while still looking scary. Haunted tree figures, creepy greenery and subtle animals all add a unique vibe to this Halloween decor theme.

Whimsical, Non Scary Halloween Decorations

Whimsical Halloween decorations are popular each year, and I believe we’ll be seeing more of these cute Halloween decorations going forward. I mentioned that I think people are looking for non scary ways to decorate for Halloween and these decorations fit the bill.

Soft felts, plush fabrics and smiling faces on cute Halloween decorations all work well if you’re trying to decorate for Halloween with kids. In fact, Joann is marketing their whimsical Halloween decorations as a “Kid Friendly Halloween Decor” collection for Halloween trends 2024.

You’ll also see companies marketing this cute Halloween decor under a “Hocus Pocus” theme, which is exactly what Michaels is doing for 2024.

Vintage Halloween Decorations

RAZ Imports Halloween decorations for 2024 with flameless candles, vintage cats

Vintage Halloween decorations are starting to make a comeback, which is great news for those that are retro decor fans.

It can be hard to find vintage Halloween items in good condition. Your next best bet is buy newer “vintage” looking items for Halloween decor 2024.

RAZ Imports is calling their 2024 Halloween decor collection “Scaredy Cat” and it features some of the vintage looking black cat figurines that were popular back in the day.

Also check out Bethany Lowe Designs, a company that makes a ton of vintage inspired Halloween decorations.

Extra Tall & Large Halloween Decorations

Extra tall and large Halloween decorations have become popular in the last few years with the introduction of “Skelly”, Home Depot’s 12 foot tall skeleton prop. It looks like the trend is going to continue into the 2024 season as well.

How tall is tall when it comes to Halloween decorations and props? Many Halloween props are in the 5ft to 7ft tall range. So I would say that any Halloween prop over 8ft is considered “extra large” or “extra tall”.

Spirit Halloween 2024 Decorations – Carnevil

For those that do want scary Halloween decorations, you can’t go wrong with items from Spirit Halloween. Every year they come out with a bunch of new animatronics and other creepy Halloween decorations that eager collectors snatch up quickly.

It looks like the big theme this year is “Carnevil” with lots of creepy clowns, ghosts and even a circus bear prop. Not sure about you, but that promo video is creeping me out!

Are you a water lantern fan? These fun, water filled dioramas where introduced by RAZ Imports a couple years ago and have been a big hit ever since. They are constantly coming out with new designs and features for the water lanterns.

I love these jack-o-lantern versions for 2024. RAZ is a wholesaler, so you won’t be able to purchase from them directly, but you should be able to find their items on Amazon, eBay and independent retailers such as The Jolly Christmas Shop.
