Decorating Ideas For Each Month
How to decorate your home for each season and holiday? Honestly, it’s not too hard once you get started. What works best for me is to take out the decor I already have from storage. Next, I put up my decorations and make a list of any items I need to shop for. Once the seasons or holiday is done, I put everything away into storage and repeat the process.

How Do You Transition Between Fall and Christmas Decor
How do you transition between fall and Christmas decor? Honestly, I love fall decor, so I keep mine up right until Thanksgiving is over. Over the long Thanksgiving weekend, I take the time to decorate the house for Christmas. The Christmas decorations then stay up until right around New Years.
So for me, it’s a quick transition between fall and Christmas decor. Others might want to take more time in between decorating for fall and Christmas. Some like to put up Christmas decorations in mid November and have the house decorated for Christmas during Thanksgiving.
Bottom line: there is no right way to go about decorating during this time of year. There are busy schedules to consider and plenty of other things to do besides decorate. Do what works best for you and your family!
Winter Seasonal Decor By Month
How can I decorate my house for the seasons? Let’s start with the biggest holiday – Christmas. The winter decorating season kicks off with Christmas at the end of the calendar year. If you celebrate Christmas at all, then most likely you will put up at least some Christmas decorations around the house.
But what about those that don’t celebrate Christmas or want to decorate? Not a problem. December is a good time for displaying decorations for other holidays such as Hanukkah or New Years.
It’s also a great time to get your house ready for the winter. Cozy decor items such as candles, soft winter greenery and string lights are perfect to display during December. These items transition well into January & February too.

How Do You Transition Between Winter and Spring Decor
How do you decorate between winter and spring each year? Honestly, this can be a good time of year to take a break from seasonal decorating. Take time to clean & declutter, refresh your everyday decor items, rearrange your furniture and accessories for a new look. It’s the beginning of the year so it can be a good time to change things up around the house and spruce up your home for spring.
On the other hand, there are a few holidays and seasons to decorate for towards the end of Christmas and the beginning of Easter. From the months of January through March, consider the following monthly holiday decorations:
- New Year’s Day
- Winter season
- Valentine’s Day
- St. Patrick’s Day
- Spring season
Spring Seasonal Decor By Month
When decorating for the seasons, the spring season is rather short – mostly just the months of March and April. These are good months to go all out on St. Patrick’s Day decor, spring decor and Easter decor.

How Do You Transition Between Spring and Summer Decor
How do you decorate between spring and summer each year? After the Easter season is over, it’s a good time of year to get your space ready for summer. Most people will start to spend more time outdoors in the upcoming months so make sure to decorate your outdoor areas as well as inside your home.
It can be fun to come up with a theme or color scheme for your summer decor. For example, you might go with fun pink colors and watermelon items. Spring colors are often muted, so using brighter colors throughout your house will help you transition into the summer season.
Summer Seasonal Decor By Month
Wondering how to decorate for each month in the summer? In my opinion, decorating for the summer holidays (in America!) such as the 4th of July is optional. If you enjoy the red, white and blue then go for it!
But don’t feel like you have to decorate much in the summer. It’s a good time to kick back, relax and enjoy time outside. Not sure about you, but I get rather lazy in the summer with the heat.
But if you’re in the mood to decorate or are planning a summer party, it’s also a good time to play around with brighter colors. Monthly holiday decorations using tropical items, fruit, boho, & beach themes can be fun to explore during this time of year.

If you have an outdoor space such as a patio, front porch or pool deck, don’t forget about setting out some decorations in these areas too!
Sometimes all you need to make your home feel refreshed in the summer are some potted plants and a few string lights outside.
How Do You Transition Between Summer and Fall Decor
How do you decorate between summer and fall each year? Just like in January, the end of the summer marks a good time to refresh around the house, do some cleaning & decluttering to get ready for the busy fall & winter months. As the kids go back to school and the weather starts to cool, life changes gears and our decor should reflect that feeling.
To transition into the fall season, I like to first put away all my summer decorations and outdoor decor. Then I like to take some time to come up with a fall color scheme to use for the year. Once I have that, I start decorating for fall towards the middle of September, but you can decorate for fall in late August as well.
When decorating for the seasons, many of us have a sense of when summer is over and fall is starting. This is a great time to get out the fall decorations and get into the autumn vibes.
Fall Seasonal Decor By Month
The fall season officially kicks off in September as the weather cools and the kids go back to school.
Can you start decorating for fall in September? Yes, absolutely! If you love fall like me, you can start to decorate for it towards the end of August. Or at least think about getting out your decor from storage and going shopping. It’s a great time of year to look for fall items in the stores.
One of the things I like about fall decorating is that I can leave the decorations up all the way through Thanksgiving. This takes the pressure off having to decorate much during these busy months.
Can you decorate for fall and Halloween at the same time? Yes I think so. Keep your color schemes in mind. Traditional orange and black Halloween colors will work well with orange and purple fall colors. You can also use farmhouse fall colors (pale white, greens, blues & oranges) with black Halloween decorations.
