Cute Ways to Decorate for Halloween
Wondering how do you tastefully decorate for Halloween and not use a bunch of super scary Halloween decorations? Scary Halloween decorations can be fun at a haunted house, but I don’t necessarily want to look at them everyday for a few weeks in October.
Luckily, there are many other ways you can decorate for Halloween without the need for gory looking Halloween decorations.
There are lots of cute and playful Halloween decor items on the market that you can use to get a whimsical look. These charming, cheerful Halloween decor items will add a touch of fun your existing home decor.
Keep scrolling through for some non scary, cute Halloween decor ideas for this year.
Charming Jack-o-Lantern Figurines
Jack-o-lanterns don’t have to be creepy or scary looking. A smiling jack-o-lantern is going to convey a cute, whimsical vibe for your Halloween decor.
There are so many jack-o-lantern figurines on the market these days. Many are made of ceramic or resin type materials and can be used inside or outdoors. These whimsical Halloween decorations often light up or have enough space for a flameless tea light or other LED light inside.

DIY Painted Halloween Pumpkins
Speaking of painting pumpkins for Halloween, there are lots of cute ways to decorate a pumpkin without having to carve it. In the photo above, little ghosts were painted onto the pumpkin for a fun, whimsical touch.
A few other pumpkins painted with cute faces and a playful tablecloth make for a cheerful, DIY Halloween tablescape.
If you’re not good with painting, consider using stickers instead. You can find fun Halloween stickers and decals to use on a pumpkin instead of paint or markers. This is a good idea to use with little kids who might not have the patience for painting pumpkins.
Adorable Halloween Garland and Bunting
One of my favorite cute ways to decorate for Halloween is to use festive garland and bunting throughout your home. If you have a fireplace and mantel, this area makes for a great place to display whimsical garland.
Adding in Halloween figurines, taper candles, decorative bats, Halloween trees, etc. all make the mantel a nice focal point for the room.

Whimsical Halloween Wall Art & Gallery Walls
Do you already have a gallery wall in your house? If so, consider giving it a temporary update for Halloween.
You can use cute & fun Halloween wall art signs, which you can easily find at places like craft stores and online shops. Or if you already have a bunch of pictures hanging in frames, use Halloween wall art printables as a cute Halloween decor for the home.
In an apartment? Get the same look with Halloween wall art printables and wasabi tape.
Amusing Halloween Wreaths
There’s lots of cute ways to decorate with wreaths throughout the year. I love these Halloween wreaths that use witch legs for a whimsical touch. You can buy wreaths like this premade from various sellers online.
Or consider making your own. You’ll need a wreath, witch leg picks, ribbons, pumpkins, signs and other small Halloween decor items. There are lots of ideas for making cute Halloween wreaths on Pinterest.
Cute Halloween Wreaths
Wreaths can be used both indoors and outside on your front porch to welcome guests and trick or treaters. If you’re short on time, consider just placing a cute Halloween wreath or two around your home for a whimsical touch this season.
Soft Halloween Throw Pillows & Pillow Covers
Another one of my favorite cute ways to decorate for Halloween is to use throw pillows. Throw pillows are an easy way to change out your decor from season to season. You can buy throw pillows in different Halloween shapes such as ghosts, bats, pumpkins, etc.
Or considering using Halloween themed pillows covers over your existing pillows. You can find pillow covers with various Halloween patterns and prints. Using plain orange, black or purple pillow covers will work as well.

Cute Halloween Serveware, Dishes & Mugs
Celebrating Halloween in your kitchen might involve getting out the decorative plates, glasses and mugs. Rae Dunn themed Halloween dishware is a popular choice, but there’s lots of other brands and styles out there as well.

Even if you don’t use them for eating, displaying your Halloween dish collection on a shelf, hutch, coffee bar area or in a China cabinet is one of the cute Halloween decor ideas you can achieve over time.
If you like to throw Halloween parties, then you’ll want to have a few pieces of cute Halloween serveware in your collection as well.
Cute Halloween Tiered Trays
Do you have a tiered tray that you decorate throughout the year? Tiered trays are such a fun way to decorate a kitchen counter or sideboard. I like that small decor items are used in a tiered tray. These items are generally cheap to buy and easy to find a dollar stores, Target, etc.
This creative tiered tray uses a bunch of Rae Dunn Halloween mugs, fun Halloween straws, small pumpkins, a little box sign and an eight ball to create cute Halloween decor ideas.

Charming Halloween Box Signs
Can you ever have too many box signs? Some people don’t like decorating around the house with words or sayings as they think it can look tacky. But I think seasonal box signs are a cute, charming way to celebrate different holidays.
There’s lots of different Halloween box signs to consider for your decor. In the vignette shown above, I used a small, cheap box sign paired with Halloween flameless candles and some glitter ornaments grouped together on an orange tray. It’s a creative way to decorate your TV stand or sideboard for Halloween.
A fun item to display on your mantel is Halloween word art signs or box signs. These signs give a playful vibe to your Halloween decor and can be used throughout your home. I love these “boo” and “eek” signs that look like helium balloons!
Whimsical Halloween Ghosts
There’s plenty of scary & creepy Halloween ghost decor on the market these days. But I’ve also seen lots of whimsical ghost decorative items out there as well.
I think much of this was inspired by Caspar, the Friendly Ghost, an animated character in cartoons from the 1940s and 1950s. Friendly ghost decorations are one of my favorite cute ways to decorate for Halloween throughout your home.

Whimsical Halloween Witches
Along the same lines as ghosts, many people think Halloween witch decor is usually scary or creepy. But this isn’t always the case. If a witch decoration has a friendly looking face, then she’ll read more as “cute” instead of “creepy”.
There’s also something about the bright green goo in a witch’s cauldron that can look fun and playful in some situations such as the green foam used in the photo above. Maybe because bright colors are often used in whimsical decorations, this being no exception.
Cute Halloween Skeletons
You’ll find posable skeletons on the market that can bet setup however you’d like to get a few laughs from guests, neighbors and trick or treaters. Don’t forget the props such as hats, sunglasses, clothes, etc.

Whimsical Light Up Halloween Decorations
One of my favorite cute ways to decorate for Halloween is to use light up decorations. You’ve probably seen the crazy front yard decorations that people do with creative lighting on their scary Halloween props.
You can get a similar feel using lighting on whimsical Halloween decorations too. Or look for cute Halloween decor ideas with built in lighting.
Cute Halloween Light Up Decor
Light up Halloween decorations can be used both indoors and outdoors, although be sure to check for weather proofing on any outdoor lights. Since much of Halloween is celebrated at night, it makes sense to have some creative lighting on your decor.
For those that are crafty, here was a fun, DIY “trick or treat” light up sign I saw on the Confessions of a Serial DIYer blog. Something like this would be relatively easy to make and would delight your neighbors and guests.
Fun DIY Halloween Lawn Signs
Halloween lawn signs a playful way to decorate a front yard for Halloween and welcome your trick or treaters. If you’re not into the whole “front yard graveyard” kind of vibe, consider decorating your lawn with funny signs instead.
If you’re handy and like craft projects, lawn signs can be made with a few simple supplies such as wood, glue and paint. The sign shown in the photo above would be easy to make yourself.
For those that aren’t crafty, consider purchasing done for you Halloween lawn signs. I’ve seen a lot of nice Halloween metal signs on the market with different colors and textured finishes. Many of these are very whimsical such as the “boo” sign shown in the photo above.
